Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts calls the new film "Spider-Man: Endgame." No Way Home is the 4th film in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 27th film overall. Swinging into theaters on December 17, 2021, the film will star returning actors Tom Holland as Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, and Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan. The film will also feature MCU players Benedict Wong as Wong and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

In the film, Peter Parker is dealing with the fallout of his secret identity being revealed publicly. When he approaches Doctor Strange to perform a spell to make people forget, he panics at the last minute and the failed spell causes the multiverse to fold over on itself, spilling villains from previous Spider-Man continuities into the MCU. Although the rumors have not yet been confirmed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will reprise their webslinger roles from previous Spider-Man films, the film has hinted at the return of the Green Goblin, and it has been officially confirmed that Jamie Foxx will return as Electro along with Alfred Molina as Doc Ock.

Speaking with Empire, No Way Home director Jon Watts teased that this capper to the Spider-Man trilogy will be an epic achievement. He acknowledges that they're being extremely "ambitious" with this entry. He even teased fans by calling it "Spider-Man: Endgame." Read the full quote here:

We’re definitely trying to be ambitious. It’s Spider-Man: Endgame.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will also feature the return of characters Betty Brant (Angourie Rice), Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori), Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr), Mr. Dell (J. B. Smoove), and Coach Wilson (Hannibal Buress). While they will be filling out the world in and around Peter Parker's high school, there are rumors swirling about even more characters from Marvel at large joining the fray. Most recently, the end-credits stinger from Venom: Let There Be Carnage has led fans to speculate that Tom Hardy's Venom may also be appearing in some capacity, rumors which were fueled by Hardy sharing crossover fan art on social media and subsequently taking down the post.

Considering how jam-packed Spider-Man: No Way Home is, the comparisons to Avengers: Endgame are quite apt. Blending the heap of characters from Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy with the MCU even further is a massive feat alone. Adding in characters from the previous Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel allows for the potential to have dozens of characters from different films overlapping, which is exactly what Endgame did with the MCU as a whole.
